  Bradwell Shell Bank Bradwell-on-Sea

Bradwell Cockle Spit on the Dengie Peninsular consists of some 30 acres of shell bank together with extensive saltmarsh. The spit has been built up by tidal currents and is mainly cockle and oyster shells. www.essexwt.org.uk
  Colne Point St Osyth

This large and important 683 acre reserve at the mouth of the Colne Estuary and consists of a shingle ridge enclosing a considerable area of saltmarsh, through which Ray Creek flows. It is an important nesting site for Little Terns.

  Ray Island & Bonners Saltings Nature Reserve Mersea Island

This 100 acre reserve comprises Ray Island which is a large sandy mound rising out of the surrounding saltings. Access by boat only.
  Two Tree Island Leigh on Sea

This 640 acre island is situated south of Leigh on Sea train station. The island itself consists of grassland, scrub, reedbed and lagoons and supports a wide variety of birds, particularly migrants. Avocets breed on the island each year.
  Wrabness Wrabness

This 60 acre reserve offers fantastic views on the southern bank of the Stour Estuary. Grassland, scrub and woodland offer a variety of habitats. As does the wonderful adjoining marsh. www.essexwt.org.uk

  Cliffe Pools (RSPB)   Cliffe Pools nature reserve offers a spectacular landscape of open water and big skies. The reserve is one of the most important places for wildlife in the UK with huge flocks of wetland birds. A number of nature trails cross the reserve, affording great views of the pools, wildlife and the River Thames which runs alongside.
  Dungeness (RSPB)   Jutting into the English Channel, makes it ideally placed to watch for migrant birds arriving or departing.
  Dungeness (Nature Reserve)   If you haven't been to Dungeness, nothing can quite prepare you for the landscape – mile after mile of shingle, which is wild and a little weird!
  Elmley Marshes (RSPB)   If you thought that there was no wilderness left in the south east, come and have a look at Elmley Marshes! The two-mile drive across the vast wetlands, managed by the Elmley Conservation Trust, to get to the reserve car park is an exciting start to your visit.
  Nor Marsh (RSPB) Medway Nor Marsh is a saltmarsh island in the Medway Estuary. To the east is Motney Hill, another area of mud and saltmarsh. In the winter at both sites, large numbers of wildfowl can be seen. In the spring and autumn, look out for black-tailed godwits.

The reserve consists of over 81 hectares of grazing marsh with freshwater dykes, open water ‘scrapes’, seawall and saltmarsh.The reserve is of international importance for migratory, over-wintering and breeding wetland birds. Suitable habitat is achieved through manipulation of water levels and livestock grazing. The reserve supports a spectacular and diverse range of wetland bird life.

  Sandwich & Pegwell Bay (Kent Willife Trust) Sandwich

The landscape is made up of a complex mosaic of habitats: inter-tidal mudflats, saltmarsh, shingle, sand dunes, ancient dune pasture, chalk cliffs, wave cut platform and coastal scrubland. It is the best remaining complex of this type in the southeast, showing a complete series of seashore habitats.

Of international importance the reserve is noted for its bird population. Please avoid disturbing resident bird life .

South Swale covers 428 hectares and is home to thousands of wildfowl and waders in winter, and some very special plants in summer. Visit on a calm sunny day in summer and it buzzes with the sound of beetles, grasshoppers, skylark, reed warbler and breeding redshank. Amongst the reeds you might also hear the ‘ching’ of a bearded reedling or catch a distant view of a marsh harrier.

  Farlington Marshes Farlington Marshes is just south of the A27 between Portsmouth and Havant (Grid ref. SU 685 045). Farlington Marshes is an example of an extensive grazed, species rich upper saltmarsh and transitional communities. There are associated habitats such as poached areas, ditches, swamps and ponds that form an integral part of the whole site. Farlington Marshes forms an integral part of Langstone Harbour which has the status of S.S.S.I, S.P.A and RAMSAR.

  Lepe Country Park Lepe, Hampshire SO45 1

Lepe is a coastal Country Park in the New Forest National Park. There are stunning views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. With over a mile of beach, pine fringed cliffs, historic D-Day remains and wild flower meadows.

  Pewit Island   An Island within Portsmouth Harbour composed of vegetated shingle and saltmarsh habitats. An integral part of Portsmouth Harbour which has the status of SSSI, SPA and RAMSAR. The Island is not accessible due to its small size and the risk of disturbance to birds. It is best viewed from Porchester or Fort Nelson.

One of the most important conservation sites on the Sussex coast Rye Harbour Local Nature Reserve has been recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Protection Area for birds, and as a Ramsar site that takes account of its importance as a wetland on an international scale.

The Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve has over 267 hectares of ancient woodland, heathland and grassland together with 3 miles (5km) of dramatic cliffs and coastline. Lying within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, most of the park has been designated a Special Area of Conservation, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is a designated Local Nature Reserve.
       
  Seven Sisters Country Park Seven Sisters Country Park

Situated in the South Downs National Park, the Seven Sisters Country Park comprises 280 hectares of chalk cliffs, meandering river valley and open chalk grassland.
